There are many things that can cause teeth staining. Foods like chocolate, beets, dark berries and certain hard candies can be factors. Coffee, tea, and wine can cause tooth discoloration as well as tomato sauce and soy sauce. Smoking and not brushing your teeth can cause teeth staining as well. It’s no fun having stained teeth and for most people it’s pretty embarrassing. Fortunately there are ways to get rid of tooth discoloration. Here are a few remedies for teeth whitening:

1. Whitening toothpaste

This is an inexpensive method to whiten stained teeth and it can be done easily at home. Whitening toothpaste contains chemicals that get rid of yellow stains and whitens the surface of the teeth. Most people notice brighter teeth within two to four weeks of regular use.

2. Charcoal toothpaste

Using activated charcoal toothpaste is another good source for removing tooth stains. It removes surface stains from the teeth. Not only does using this product helps to remove stains but freshens the breath and prevents teeth staining.

3. Whitening strips

Using teeth whitening strips is an easy, cheap way to brighten teeth and remove discoloration. These strips contain bleach in them that quickly removes teeth stains. This product is fast working, after a few days of use the teeth are noticeably whiter.

4. Oil pulling

The practice of oil pulling began in India as a way to whiten teeth. This method should be used on a daily basis and not only whitens the teeth but removes plaque and bacteria from the mouth. Oil pulling should be done on a daily basis. Coconut oil is recommended for use because it has a better taste than some of the other oils.

5. Baking soda

Using baking soda to whiten discolored teeth is one of the top methods people use because it’s natural. Baking soda is mild and very effective in removing tooth discoloration as well as preventing bacteria growth.

6. Strawberries

This sweet delicious super food contains malic acid that has been proven to get rid of teeth stains. The strawberries act as an exfoliated to the teeth but excessive use could actually damage the teeth. It is recommended to use this method two to three times per week.

7. Brushing and flossing

It is important to brush and floss teeth at least twice a day everyday. Sometimes teeth will begin turning yellow from aging so it’s important to take proper care of your teeth by brushing, flossing and getting regular dental cleanings to prevent plaque build up.

8. Calcium

Eating a calcium rich diet can be very beneficial because calcium can protect the teeth from enamel erosion. Dairy foods and some fruits and vegetables contain calcium.

9. Hydrogen peroxide

Acting as a bleach when used on the teeth, hydrogen peroxide is a good way to whiten discolored teeth. This method should only be used for a week because longterm use can cause tooth sensitivity. It has even been recommended to use hydrogen peroxide along with using baking soda to get even better results.
