Common Causes Of Hair Loss
Men experience more hair loss than women. Common hair loss in women is contributed to pregnancy, menopause, anemia, certain diseases, poor nutrition, age, and anemia. Hair loss or male pattern baldness is closely related to the same conditions as women experience. This includes testosterone or hormonal issues, medical conditions, androgenetic alopecia (family history), thyroid disease, stress, poor nutrition, age, and even certain medications. Most hair loss conditions can be treated by a qualified dermatologist or an endocrinologist.
Below is a list of the common causes of hair loss:
1. Androgenetic hair loss
Both men and women can suffer from androgenetic hair loss. In women, it is known as female pattern hair loss (FPHL) and in men it’s called male pattern hair loss (MPHL). Hormones play a key role in both female and male pattern baldness. Other hair loss issues include a lack of nutrition, trauma, genes, and/or inflammation from a medical condition. More than 70% of men suffer from MPHL while 40% of women suffer from FPHL. Women have more options for hair loss treatments than men. Men can be treated with pills, topical solutions, and hair restoration surgery whereas women can take oral drugs, platelet therapy, laser therapy, and topical medications.
2. Anemia
Anemia is the lack of iron in the body or not enough red blood cells as has been known to cause hair loss. To avoid experiencing anemia, it is recommended to take a daily iron supplement, Vitamin B-12, folate, and other various nutrients. Once the body is satisfied with the amount of iron and its related nutrients hair loss regrowth can be easily achieved.
3. Vitamin deficiency
Hair loss is only one symptom in a lack of Vitamin D. This key nutrient is responsible for keeping our immune system strong. It the bones, hair, skin, and even hair follicle growth. Vitamin D enters the body through sunshine, foods, and supplements. When our body becomes depleted of this nutrient, men and women can experience bald patches. We recommend working with your physician for meal planning, a vitamin D supplement, and order you to get more sunshine.
4. DNA hair shaft changes
Hair loss due to thin and weakened follicles or changes in hair strands causes breakage. There are several syndromes caused by hair shaft breakage. One is called “loose anagen” and the other is “traction alopecia.” This type of hair loss can even occur in children. Loose anagen causes hair to fall out just by brushing it or styling it so that the hair strands are pulled whereby bald spots will appear. With children, this hair loss condition can change during puberty with the help of medication.
5. Trichotillomania
This is a nervous condition where people pull their hair out from the scalp. Lastly, “hypotrichosis” is a damaged gene condition. Hair almost ceases to grow on the scalp or certain parts of the body. At a young age, hypotrichosis makes men and women bald by the age of 25. A treatment option for this condition involves long-term prescription drugs that may thicken and regrow hair, but not in all cases.
